LABYRINTH IN LUCCA

A rare wall labyrinth for tracing with one's fingers, this seeming after thought was carved on a pillar in the late 12th or early 13th century. Beside it is an inscription in Latin that says something to the effect of, "This is the labyrinth that Daedalus built which can be escaped only with the help of Ariadne's thread."

To understand all of this you would need to know the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. Basically, it is an archtypal endeavor involving overcoming one's fears and dark side.
